Why Massage?
Eases Pain and Muscular Tension
The physical stressors of everyday life can lead to stiffness and pain in our bodies. Massage breaks down the build-up of muscular tension by separating and loosening muscle fibres which reduces pain, increases flexibility and improves circulation. This allows the muscles to heal and restores movement to the body.
Relieves Stress
Enhances Exercise Performance
Better Sleep
Massage releases muscle tension, improves circulation and encourages the removal of waste products such as lactic acid during high intensity activity. It also helps to relax the body. All of this enhances exercise performance, promotes recovery and reduces the chances of muscle injury.
The positive impacts of massage on the body and mind are well documented. Massage activates the parasympathetic nervous system, or the "rest and digest" state. This slows our heart and breathing rates, lowers blood pressure and promotes digestion. Our body enters a state of relaxation, and this relaxation breeds recovery.
Studies confirm that massage can have a significant impact on sleep quality by reducing physical discomfort and mental stress. Physically relaxing the body and quietening the mind can make it easier to fall asleep. Massage therapy also increases serotonin levels, which influences the production of melatonin, the hormone needed for a functional sleep-wake cycle.
